Heidelberg Castle

Sunday, March 7, 2010

Today we got up early and took the regional train from Stuttgart to Heidelberg. This is a picture of us on the way home. On the way there it was daylight and we peered out the windows the whole ride. Nikki and Jessica took pictures of the clock towers. Every town seems to have at least one clock tower. These were a display of wealth by the churches.

From Heidelberg town we took the bus and then the cable car up to Heidelberg Castle.

Two words: Way Awesome! We got to see a real castle at last! This has been a lifelong wish for me. We took the tour so we could see the inside as well. There is so much amazing architecture there, gothic and renaissance styles of building and statues.

There is so much amazing architecture there,

It was awesome to walk around the castle. There are some exterior walls that are 7 meters thick. There was a moat at one time.

When we were done exploring the castle we went down into Heidelberg again and found a restaurant to eat our first German meal. This is a picture of Mark's meal -- beer, rindwurst and sauerkraut and fries. Jessica and Brad had jagerschnitzel with champaignon mushroom sauce.

It was a very satisfying day!
